For 2025 FYAP Grant recipients, upload your poster to the form no later than August 21, 2026. Poster instructions are listed below.

For all our First Year Assistant Professors: Welcome to FSU!

  • Sherry Core (the Internal Funding Coordinator) will be reaching out to you all via email in July with details about the FYAP workshop.
  • Please register for the FYAP Workshop. To qualify for the FYAP Grant, you must attend the full workshop. The workshop schedule will be available soon.
  • The workshop will begin with opening remarks from the Vice President for Research Dr. Stacey Patterson, the CRC Co-Chair Dr. Marlo Ransdell, the Internal Funding Coordinator Sherry Core, and the Director of Research Development Beth Hodges. This will provide you with an overview of the Council on Research & Creativity grant programs, the FYAP grant, and resources available to you through the Office of Research. Then we will split into breakout rooms divided into 4 categories: Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences, STEM, and Health & Clinical Sciences. The breakout speakers will go over best practices and tips & tricks for applying for grant funding in your discipline. A poster session follows, from 5:30pm - 7pm which will showcase the posters from last year's FYAPs and the research they completed over the summer with their FYAP Grant. Food and drink tickets will be provided.
  • The FYAP Grant application will be available in the InfoReady Submission Portal. The deadline is October 15, 2026 by 5pm.
  • If revisions are requested on your proposal, you will be notified before Winter Break. Revisions will be due the first week we get back from break. Funding notifications will be sent out the first week of February 2027.

FYAP Resources:

If you need any resources to help you write your FYAP grant proposal:

  • On the InfoReady Support Resources tab of the website, there is a FYAP Grant Application Walk-Through document, which outlines every step in the application process.
  • In the Research Development Successful Proposal Database, the last few years of successful FYAP proposals have been loaded in. Read over some of the proposals from your department (or others) to see the types of research accomplished over the summer, and ideas on how to structure your proposal.
  • You will need a faculty mentor. Reach out to your department chair for recommendations, or contact one of our CRC members.

The deadline to submit your FYAP grant proposal is October 15, 2026 by 5pm! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to the Internal Funding Coordinator for assistance: sbcore@fsu.edu.

For 2025 FYAP Grant Recipients:

  • Congratulations again on your FYAP Grant! I hope you've had an amazing and productive summer!
  • You will need to submit a poster about your summer research project, due by August 21, 2026. Poster instructions and templates are in the section below.
  • If you attended the full FYAP workshop in 2025, you're not required to attend the full workshop this year. But you're welcome to if you would like! The poster session is from 5:30pm - 7pm, with food and drink tickets provided. Attendance at the poster session is not mandatory, but is appreciated! Come meet all of our new FYAPs and talk about your summer research!
  • If you did not attend the full workshop last year, you will need to attend this year.

FYAP Poster Instructions

As you know, one of the conditions of the grant – and future CRC funding eligibility – requires that you submit a poster at the next FYAP workshop, which takes place in the Fall semester following your summer research.

A series of PowerPoint templates have been created specifically for this FYAP poster session if you would like a starting point. You’re welcome to use any other graphic design program (Canva, Photoshop, etc.) to develop your poster, but the finished product must be a printed size of 24 inches (wide) by 36 inches (tall) in vertical orientation to maintain consistency across the presentation.

Open the PowerPoint presentation and choose one of the templates, either blank (fully customizable) or one of the FSU-branded templates. Add/change text, add department logos (see "Lockups" in the FSU brand folder), utilize FSU-branded colors, add charts, graphs, images, anything that will help explain your research and give your poster visual appeal. Browse the FYAP Poster Archive below to see examples of prior-year posters for inspiration. Be mindful of image resolution, as these will be printed very large.

When your poster is complete, if you utilized the template, make sure you remove the instruction slide and any unused templates, then upload your poster to the FYAP Workshop Registration Form as a PowerPoint file (.pptx) or PDF.

The CRC handles the printing of your poster, so you only need to provide the digital file. After the workshop poster session, please take your poster with you! For anyone who can't attend the session, remaining posters will be held in the CRC Office for two weeks, then recycled. If you would like your poster, please contact the CRC Program Coordinator, Sherry Core, and she will drop off your poster at your office: sbcore@fsu.edu. Also, reach out to her if you have any questions!

The deadline to submit your poster is August 21, 2026!
